The formation of the CQC in 2009 superseded 3 regulatory bodies that held responsibility for care provided though Health and Social Care services. Since this time, it has become the main one stop quality marker for organisations providing health and social care services.
Following inspection aligned to the Fundamental standards, services are provided with a rating and ultimately this rating, alongside its associated report gives the viewer a summary of the quality of services being provided.
This aids commissioners etc to identify the quality-of-service provision in the local area.
Failure to comply with aspects of the standards (or failure to evidence compliance) can lead to services being asked to improve. (Severe breaches of regulations can lead to a much greater level of scrutiny and possible enforcement action).
Despite the CQC’s supportive and engaging approach services with a rating lower than GOOD will require their services to improve to satisfy the commission.
